Let's start by defining our terms. I tend to use the word intuitive a bit loosely and as a catchall for various abilities. It can be helpful to clearly differentiate between Intuition, Psychic Ability or ESP, Telepathy, and accessing the Akasha or Akashic Reading

Intuition: Intuition is an inner knowing or gut feeling that arises without logical reasoning. It’s more subtle than psychic abilities and is often described as a deep sense of awareness or instinct. Intuition helps us guide decisions and is accessible to everyone.

Psychic Ability or Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) includes skills like clairvoyance (seeing beyond the physical senses), clairaudience (hearing beyond the physical), clairgnosis (clear knowing - Ahas or pings), clairsentience (clear physical perception) and precognition (knowing future events). Connecting with the field.

Telepathy: Telepathy refers to the ability to communicate or transfer thoughts, emotions, or information directly from one mind to another without using the traditional senses. It often involves the transmission of ideas over distance or without speaking.

Akashic Reading: This involves accessing the Akashic Records - a metaphysical archive containing the soul’s journey, past, present, and future. In an Akashic reading, a practitioner requests permission to tap into this field to provide spiritual insights, guidance, or healing.

In a previous post about Intuition, I go into greater detail about the basics. Here's a basic review of how to develop your intuition.

Meditation and Mindfulness Meditation helps quiet the mind, which is essential for hearing the intuitive voice. During meditation, observe any thoughts, sensations, or images without judgment. Over time, meditation sharpens your awareness of subtle intuitive pings, enhances clarity, and strengthens your ability to discern between intuition and mental chatter.

Journaling & Free Writing Set aside time each day to free write or journal stream of consciousness your thoughts, feelings, and questions. Let your pen flow on the page without editing. This allows intuitive messages from your subconscious mind to emerge. You can also try automatic writing, where you ask a question and allow the response to come through your writing without filter. Writing with the non-dominant hand can also help access deeper, more subtle levels. Reviewing entries over time reveals intuitive patterns and insights.

Body Awareness Our body communicates intuitive messages all the time through sensations (clairsentience). Practice body awareness by scanning your body regularly, paying attention to feelings or “gut” reactions about situations, people, or decisions. A practice: Take 3 mindful breaths and allow the mind to quiet, bring a question to mind. Place a hand over your heart and keep your awareness in the heart center, see if you get a clear yes or a no answer. Notice physical sensations.

Grounding Sweet habits like yoga, walking in nature, and mindful breathing help soothe the nervous system and keep us consciously connected to the body and the more subtle realms. These practices help build a deeper connection to inner knowing and help you trust and act on intuitive insights with confidence. When I need to actively ground, I tap my feet, bringing awareness to the sensations in my feet. I might drop a cord or thread of light from my second chakra down down down, all the way to the center of the earth, then feel that cord “anchor.” Imagining roots growing from your feet is also great way to ground.

Increasing your awareness, entering the present moment, and resting in stillness: these 3 habits will naturally Attune you to the subtle bodies. Amplifying your coherence with all that is organically increases your intuition and leads to more psychic abilities or as i like to call it, "developing the clairs."

Cultivating Different Faculties of Perception: the 5 Clairs

Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing)

Visualization Exercises: Regularly practice visualizing objects, scenes, or symbols in your mind’s eye with as much detail as possible. This strengthens the ability to "see" beyond physical sight. You can also close your eyes and visualize colors or shapes, holding the images as long as possible. It’s helpful to first study an object carefully (like a dime or a quarter) and then, in your minds-eye, to visualize as many details of the object as possible.

Meditation with Third Eye Focus: Meditate while focusing on the space between your eyebrows (the third eye chakra). Visualize a bright light or a symbol like an eye in this area to stimulate your clairvoyant abilities. This helps awaken your inner sight.

Dream Journaling: Keep a journal by your bed and record your dreams as soon as you wake up. Pay attention to symbols or images that appear, as these can offer insights into your clairvoyant abilities. Over time, you'll become more aware of the visual messages from your subconscious.

Clairaudience (Clear Hearing)

Listening to Silence: Practice sitting in silence, focusing on subtle sounds around you or the stillness itself. This heightens your auditory awareness and helps you attune to psychic sounds, which are often very soft or internal.

Sound Meditation: Use mantras, singing bowls, or binaural beats during meditation to enhance your connection with psychic sound. Chanting "Om" or listening to healing frequencies can help open the pathways to clairaudience by focusing on spiritual vibrations.

Automatic Writing: Sit quietly with a pen and paper, relax, and ask for guidance or messages from your higher self or spiritual guides. Write whatever you hear or sense, even if it seems random. This practice develops your ability to hear subtle messages and interpret them.

Clairgnosis (Clear Knowing)

Trusting Intuitive Hits: When you get sudden flashes of insight or “gut feelings,” act on them. The more you trust these inner knowings and act according to that trust, the stronger your intuition grows. Practice recognizing when knowledge comes to you without logical explanation and follow the thread.

Two-Way Prayer: Write down a question, tune into a higher power (maybe that's nature, your beloved ancestors, spirit guides, God, Angels, and so on), then free-write the answers that come to you without editing. This helps you access a higher/deeper knowledge. Clairgnosis bypasses the rational mind. Writing with your non-dominant hand can also get to that quieter, more subtle wisdom.

Meditating on the Higher/Creative Self: Sit quietly in meditation with the intention of connecting to universal wisdom or your higher self. Ask for answers or clarity about a specific situation, and allow knowledge to arise naturally. Practice being receptive to sudden insights or revelations. Dropping into your heart and placing a hand on your chest can often garner a clear yes or no.

Clairsentience (Clear Feeling)

Body Scanning: Regularly practice checking in with and scanning your body. You'll become increasingly aware of the body's subtle physical sensations as well as emotions (tend to create energetic and physical patterns). You can also pay extra attention to any feelings or sensations that arise when you think about specific people or situations - this will help you recognize novel impressions and familiar holding patterns within your own being.

Empathy Practice: Develop your empathic ability by sitting with someone and quietly observing how their energy feels. Try to sense their emotions without speaking. This helps fine-tune your ability to feel others' energies or emotions psychically. If you're on the other end of the spectrum and feel everyone's feelings already, your practices could be

Heart-Centered Meditation: Focus on your heart space during meditation. Imagine a warm light expanding from your chest, filling your entire body with love and compassion. This embodiment practice and visualization soothes the nervous system, has a grounding effect and will enhance your ability to feel and receive impressions, heightening your clairsentience.

Precognition ( sensing or knowing events before they happen)

Dream Journaling insights (as well as challenges) often come through dreams. Keep a journal by your bed and record your dreams immediately upon waking. You can also talk into a recording app. Over time, look for patterns or symbols that may correspond to future events. Pay attention to dreams that feel more vivid or emotionally charged, as they could carry precognitive significance. Reviewing your journal regularly will help you notice correlations between your dreams and real-life occurrences.

Meditation with Future Intentions During meditation, set the intention to receive information about future events. Focus on calming your mind, and after reaching a state of relaxation, visualize yourself moving forward in time. Allow any images, symbols, or feelings about future situations to arise naturally. This practice helps enhance your ability to perceive future outcomes by sharpening your intuitive faculties and opening your mind to receive future-oriented insights.

Practicing Predictions Throughout the day, make small predictions about what will happen next in your life. For example, predict who might call you, what email you'll receive, or what the outcome of a situation might be. Write down these predictions to track their accuracy over time. This exercise strengthens your ability to sense future events by encouraging you to trust and refine your intuitive precognitive skills.

All of these practices help you attune to specific psychic senses, and regular practice will develop your innate abilities over time. The key to cultivating any psychic ability is soft consistent focus, trusting greater fields of consciousness, and an openness to subtle energies.
